Reflexology is a non-intrusive, complementary therapy which is based on the theory that different points of the feet, hands and face correspond with different areas of the body. Reflexologists believe that by working these points through gentle pressure techniques, reflexology can help to restore balance in the body and aid relaxation. It does this in the following ways:
- Improving blood circulation
- Reducing tension
- Helping to eliminate toxins from the body
- Restoring balance in the body (known as homeostasis)

Welcome to my Reflexology practice at the Therapy and Life Centre, Coulsdon. I am available for appointments on Mondays and Fridays and Wednesday afternoons.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
The demands of our day to day lives are unfortunately leading to increasing levels of stress.. If we are in a prolonged state of stress, our body responds by shutting down all non-essential functions, which in turn leads to health issues. It is important for us to recognise the detrimental effect stress is having our health and well-being, and take action to address it.
Whilst reflexology cannot diagnose or cure specific medical conditions, it puts the body into a relaxed state, often leading to an improved sense of wellbeing. Many people report that it offers them relief from symptoms related to a wide range of health conditions including:
- Hormonal imbalance/PMS
- Poor Circulation
- Digestive problems
- Anxiety and depression
- Neck/back/shoulder pain
This is by no means an exhaustive list, and many people have reflexology simply to enjoy the relaxation it offers them.
What can I expect?
Your first appointment takes about 75 minutes and includes an initial consultation to enable me to understand any health issues and tailor the treatment to your needs. Thereafter, treatments take about an hour, including a discussion about any changes you have noticed since the last session.
The treatment itself takes around 45 minutes and includes an initial relaxation of the feet, followed by a sequence of pressure techniques on the feet; working reflex areas related to every part of the body, and concluding with a relaxing foot massage.
My name is Heidi Porter, I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist, living in and serving the Coulsdon area. I achieved an ABC Level 3 Diploma from the highly regarded Maureen Burgess School of Reflexology in East Grinstead, and am a member of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR). The AoR are an independent professional body in the UK who work with many advisory groups, carrying out research on the impact of reflexology and promoting the highest possible standards in the profession.
My own passion for reflexology was born when I first experienced it myself during a period of illness. It helped me a great deal at a difficult time and sowed the seed that would later grow into training as a reflexologist myself. Prior to this my background was in Primary Teaching, where I saw first-hand the impact that stress and anxiety have on overall health and wellbeing. Reflexology provides a much needed chance to put your feet up, sit back, relax and leave your worries at the door.
